A blast rocked in a suburb of Beirut on Thursday killing two people
A blast rocked in a suburb of Beirut on Thursday killed two people, sources told Al-Manar TV. The two victims were identified as Ihsan Dia and Hassan Nassar.
"Two people were killed in the blast that took place in a parking lot, near a commercial centre," a security official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Lebanese television said they were believed to have been handling explosives inside their vehicle when the blast went off.
A police official said a car belonging to Lebanese judge Albert Serhal was in the area when the blast went off but it was unclear whether he was targeted.
Army and police forces immediately rushed to the site along with the Red Cross.
A local TV channel reported that "several vehicles were damaged in the parking lot where the bomb went off. Human body parts were spread in the area as well. The army and security forces cordoned off the area".
The injured were taken to Abu Jaoude and Arz hospitals, an-Nahar, a Lebanese daily reported. Witnesses told MTV news that two of the victims were not Lebanese.
