PM Tammam Salam considered forming an Islamic coalition for fighting terrorism as "a forward step in favor of all Islamic peoples against terrorism," adding that Lebanon "will remain, by its openness, moderation and coexistence principle, a model against terror, extremism and cruelty."
Salam's fresh stance came Tuesday in a statement released from his press office to declare his position regarding the Saudi plan of forming an Islamic coalition against terrorism.
Salam stressed that "any executive measure to be taken by Lebanon in support of the coalition will be studied on the base of the Lebanese Constitution and laws."
Saudi Arabia has formed a coalition of 34 countries to ‘fight terrorism’ including Gulf states, Egypt and Turkey but excluding Iran, the SPA state news agency had announced Tuesday.
It is worth noting that Saudi Arabia whose basic doctrine and creeds support terrorism has always provided the terrorist groups in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Yemen with all the forms of the financial, military and political help.
