Leader of terrorist group fighting the Syrian government, Zahran Alloush, was killed in an airstrike in Damascus suburb on Friday, reports said.

Reuters news agency first reported the event, saying that the strike targeted a high-level meeting east of Damascus, killing Alloush, the leader of the so-called Jaish al-Islam, along with other commanders.

Field sources told al-Manar that the strike was one of 13 raids carried out by the Russian air forces in Eastern Ghouta.

The body of Alloush is stull under the rubble, the sources told al-Manar, adding that the strike targeted a meeting for the militants near the town of Otaya which lies near al-Marj area in eastern Ghouta.

The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said five other commanders were killed "in an air strike that targeted one of their meetings in Eastern Ghouta."

Syrian state TV also confirmed the killing of Alloush.
