After meeting with the Lebanese President and Parliament Speaker, the Palestinian Authority president will inaugurate the Palestinian State’s embassy in Lebanon and will raise the Palestinian flag over it.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas arrived to Lebanon Monday night in an official visit. He was scheduled to hold talks with the Lebanese authorities over the recognition of a Palestinian state in the United Nations Security Council in September.
Tuesday afternoon, the Palestinian president will be inaugurating, in presence of Lebanese officials, the Palestinian State’s embassy in Lebanon and will raise the Palestinian flag over it.
After his arrival, Abbas met with the Lebanese President Michel Suleiman in Baabda Palace, where both sides discussed the means of cooperation to attain the Palestinian request of full membership in the UN Security Council.
In parallel, Abbas visited Monday night Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri in his residence, where they discussed the latest developments in the Arab world.
The two parts further discussed matters related to the Palestinian cause, as well as the Palestinian Authority’s efforts to attain the recognition of a state in September, and the brotherly relations between the Lebanese and Palestinian people.
In a press conference he held after his meeting with Berri, the Palestinian president said: “During the meeting, all the matters of concern for both sides were raised, because all the Palestinian people’s causes are of concern to the Lebanese people and vice versa.”
“We talked about the (internal Palestinian) negotiations and the obstacles they faced, as well as our step in the United Nations in September to propose a request for the Palestinian State's full membership in the Council.”
