For the first time since the current situation erupted in Libya, Bloody clashes take place in the Libyan capital Tripoli.

The Libyan rebels advanced eastwards towards Tripoli Sunday, and took over Gadayem forest, which is a strategic area on the entrance of the capital Tripoli, after engaging in bloody clashes with Al-Gaddafi troops and seizing their weapons and tanks.

Explosions, intensive gunfire, and clashes between the rebels and Al-Gaddafi supporters took place in Tripoli, which urged the Libyan leader to call his supporters for a “march of millions to liberate the destroyed cities”.

In an audio message Al-Gaddafi delivered, he said: “They want to take the Libyan oil and give it to France, but the Libyan people will not accept that and will now allow France’s allies to control Libya.”

In parallel, Libyan government spokesperson Moussa Ibrahim said that limited clashes took place in a couple of regions but denied the rebel’s claims, indicating that the latter were confronted and the conflict was over in no more than half an hour.

Furthermore, among the media and political campaigns that the Libyan regime had been carrying out to waste away the rebels’ efforts, Al-Gaddafi’s son Seif Al-Islam called the rebels for dialogue, stressing that his father’s system will not surrender or fall.

For his part, the Libyan former Prime Minister Abdul Salam Jalloud escaped to Italy, from where he called on Al-Gaddafi supporters to join the rebels.

In a video statement he delivered, Jalloud said Al-Gaddafi was the reason behind Libya’s devastation and that he was obsessed with power and unpredictable. He addressed Al-Gaddafi’s supporters saying: “Disown this tyrant because he will go and you will end up inheriting his legacy… the people of Tripoli should rise massively. It is time to act... overcome fear.”
