"We have reached an informal agreement to establish a ceasefire from tonight on condition that Israel halts its attacks"
Palestinian resistance movements based in the Gaza Strip reached an 'informal' agreement to strike a ceasefire deal with the Zionist entity after Tel Aviv escalated its attacks against the enclave.
The unofficial accord was brokered by the Egyptian authorities on Sunday, AFP reported.
"We have reached an informal agreement to establish a ceasefire from tonight on condition that Israel halts its attacks," said an official with the Palestinian resistance movement of Hamas on condition of anonymity. He said Hamas had urged Islamic Jihad to halt its attacks after it fired two rockets at the southern city of Ashkelon on Sunday night.
The development followed Thursday attacks by the Israeli military, which killed at least 16 Palestinians and injured more than 45 others across Gaza as retaliation for the Eilat attack that killed eight Israelis.
Israeli military forces also arrested at least 120 Palestinians, including Hamas members, in al-Khalil in the south.
Meanwhile, five rockets slammed into southern occupied territories from Gaza overnight, Israeli police said on Monday. One of the rockets damaged an empty building in the Eskol region which flanks northeastern Gaza, but no-one was injured, police sources said.
