The head of the Strategic Research Center of Iran's Expediency Council said the fate of Syrian can only be decided by the will of its people, and not by the United nations or other governments.
'The goal followed by Americans in their support for the ceasefire in Syria is not out of good will,' Ali Akbar Velayati said on the sidelines of a conference on extremism on Tuesday, IRNA news agency reported.
'Their main goal is changing the legitimate government of the country,' the senior aide to Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei added.
Referring to the Americans, Velayati further said that they failed to achieve their goals (to overthrow the Syrian government) through their proxies.
'Now, they have referred the issue to the UN Security Council and they have approved to end Assad's government and establish a puppet government in Damascus instead,' he said.
'Sure enough, the Islamic Republic of Iran is against this measure the Americans follow to conduct.'
