Russian President Vladimir Putin told visiting Zionist President Reuven Rivlin Wednesday he had agreed to meet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu soon to discuss the security situation in the Middle East.
At a meeting with Putin, Rivlin asked that Russia work to restore a United Nations peacekeeping force as part of any long-term resolution of the war in Syria, Zionist officials said.
UN peacekeepers currently monitor the Syrian borders on the occupied Golan Heights. Rivlin also stressed to Putin that Israel will not allow Iran or Hezbollah guerrillas to get "entrenched" on the Golan.
The Zionist air force has carried out occasional air strikes in Syria throughout the five-year global war on the country.
