Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani hailed liberation of the ancient Syrian city of Palmyra (Tadmur) from the terrorists.

In his message of congratulation to Syrian President Bashar Assad on Monday, Shamkhani praised all the sacrifice and bravery offered by the Syrian people and government to recapture the city.

'The determination and true will by the Syrian nation, government and Army to purge their country from the terrorists and Takfiris is a source of pride and praise,' said he.

'The sacrifice and bravery (to liberate the city) is going to go down in the history of the region,' he added.

Shamkhani vowed continuing support for Syria and the axis of resistance by Iran's government and armed forces.

'The international organizations and all the countries boasting fight against terrorism should stop whitewashing some terrorist groups and inviting them to attend peace talks and instead focusing on extending their support for the Syrian government and waging a true war against terrorism,' he said.

Shamkhani expressed hope that following the defeat of terrorism and restoring peace and stability to Syria, the country will appear to be a promoting nation on the global scene and a model for resistance against conspiracies and proxy wars.

The ancient city of Palmyra (Tadmur) was liberated from ISIL terrorists earlier on Sunday.
