Bouteflika Reaffirms to Salman Algeria’s non-Interference in Internal Affairs

President of the Republic of Algeria Abdelaziz Bouteflika reiterated on Monday that the positions of Algeria vis-à-vis certain sensitive issues in the Arab world are underpinned by its historical legacy on non-interference in internal affairs of other countries, and are not, contrary to what might be perceived as an opposition to Arab partners. "

In a statement to the press after the audience granted by the Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Minister of State, Special Adviser to the President of the Republic Tayeb Belaiz said he was carrying a message from President Bouteflika bringing "clarifications" to the Saudi monarch.

"Some might mistakenly believe that the positions expressed by Algeria about sensitive issues in the Arab world or even regional, are opposed to those of many of its Arab partners", but in fact the positions of Algeria find their essence in its historical legacy from the liberation war, enshrining the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries," he argued.

The position of Algeria, said the Head of State, emanate from "its constitutions that prohibit the deployment of the Algerian armed forces outside the country's borders," stressing that "this does not prevent them to provide substantial aid to other areas."

President Bouteflika reiterated, through his special adviser, that Algeria "will not interfere in the internal affairs of countries and people and always favors peaceful political solutions, just as it rejects violence which generates, from his point of view, only violence."
