During a gathering attended by newly elected parliament, Zarif said that no one can say that the nuclear deal has harmed the Islamic Republic.
"The nuclear deal was a historic necessity in light of the previous conditions. It was negotiated well, and no one can say that it harmed Iran," Zarif told the Iranian parliament.
Meanwhile, the top Iranian diplomat praised Imam Khamenei's role in the country's foreign policy.
"Foreign policy is an extra-factional and national issue," he said, adding that Iran's foreign policy is based on the need for constructive interaction with the world.
"The principle is to compile Iran's foreign policy for expediting national interests and Islamic Republic's goals," his eminence said, according to IRNA news agency.
'We are bound to obey the Supreme Leader's guidelines in foreign policy,' Zarif said.
"As long as I'm foreign minister, I would obey the Supreme Leader's guidelines regarding Iran's foreign policy," he added.
