The head of Al-Chagila assembly in Lebanon Zaher Khatib said that the desperate attempts by what he called the US-Zionist-Arab alliance will fail, and stressed that Syria will not fail, given that it was internally solid and externally fortified as a result of the new political balances in the region.

In an exclusive interview with Al-Manar Website, Khatib noted that Syria was targeted because of its national immunity. He emphasized that the media chorus, charged with getting rid of Syria as a resistant regime, does not want reform, but rather wants to overthrow the regime, at whatever price.

While rejecting the Turkish role as “hidden” and criticizing the “late” Turkish move of firing the Zionist ambassador and suspending economic and military ties with the Israel enemy, he warned that Turkey, through its attempts to lighten its image, will reap nothing but disappointment.

Khatib, who stressed that the Arab official stance towards all crises was not reliable at all, warned that whatever happens in Syria would immediately reflect on Lebanon. He stressed the impossibility to separate between Lebanon and Syria, recalling that they represent a unified battleground in the face of the American-Israeli alliance, just like they were a unified struggle filed in the face of the French mandate.

ASSAD COOPERATED… BUT!
Former lawmaker Zaher Khatib told Al-Manar Website that Syria was targeted from the so-called Western-American-Zionist-Arab alliance, including Qatar and Turkey with its hidden role, because of its national immunity. He did not doubt the rightfulness of the reform demands, but noted that President Bashar Assad has cooperated with these demands and was frank in fulfilling them because he was convinced the people’s demands were their rights. He pointed to the series of reforms achieved during the last few months, including the end of the emergency law as well as the adoption of new laws such as the electoral law or the media law, in addition to others.

Khatib also remarked that President Assad raised the idea of national dialogue, and recalled that its first session was held in Damascus. “Assad wanted to extend this national dialogue to the population level in order for it to reach all constitutions, which was supposed to start on Wednesday,” he said.

NEW BALANCES CONSOLIDATE SYRIA’S STATUS
Khatib said that reforms have been launched, but noted that the media chorus, charged with getting rid of Syria as a resistant regime, proved that it does not want reform, but rather to weaken if not overthrow the regime at whatever price.

While noting that the number of demonstrators was weak given that Syria includes around 23 million citizens, Khatib expressed belief that Syria will not fall, recalling that it was internally solid and externally fortified through new political balances. He explained that Syria was fortified from the Islamic Republic of Iran, in addition to Russia, China, India and Brazil. He concluded that all desperate attempts to make Syria fall will fail.

 

TURKISH ATTEMPT TO LIGHTEN IMAGE
The Al-Chagila assembly head tackled the Turkish role in the region, and spoke of a Turkish attempt to lighten its image, which was uncovered not only through the decision to decrease diplomatic ties with the Zionist enemy, which was late, but through the timing of the move, which came at the same time with the establishment of early warning radar as part of NATO's missile defense system for Europe.

Khatib noted that one of the goals of this Turkish policy is to serve the deal with the West that gives Turkey the mission of supervising the Arab and Islamic nation, under the slogan that it was the candidate to assume the role of Egypt and Tunisia.

Khatib stressed that the opposition in Syria was not national, given that whoever opposes the resistance movement cannot be national. “Whoever claims to oppose the regime cannot be national, given that the regime is national,” he said.

He concluded that Turkey will reap nothing but disappointment.

UNIFIED BATTLEFIELD
Commenting on the Arab stance, Khatib said that the Arab official stances were never in harmony with the ambitions of their people. He said that the Arab League stance was not reliable at all.

In conclusion, he noted that what makes the repercussions of the Syrian crisis on Lebanon spontaneous is the nature of the historic and geographic relationship between Lebanon and Syria, which was established prior to the current regimes in Lebanon and Syria. He noted that this a struggle relationship in the face of the French mandate.
