US Lawmakers Plan New Bill to Impose More Iran Sanctions

"Companies must make a choice: do business with Iran, or have access to the US economy"

US legislators have unveiled a new bill aimed at imposing further unilateral economic sanctions on Iran by putting pressure on companies doing business with Tehran.

The measures proposed on Tuesday by a group of US senators urge the companies trading on the US exchanges to reveal their investment being made in the Islamic Republic, AFP reported.

"If we can bring greater transparency to any investment being made in Iran, we can defund the nuclear militarization of one of the world's most hostile nations," Senator Kirsten Gillibrand asserted.

"Companies must make a choice: do business with Iran, or have access to the US economy... We have to have a zero tolerance policy for any company that puts profit ahead our safety or the safety of our allies,” added the New York Democrat, who is one of the sponsors of the bill.
