Salam Calls on Creating Accommodation Zones in Syria for Refugees

Lebanese Prime Minister, Tammam Salam, suggested the formation of an Arab committee designed to crystallize the notion of creating accommodation zones for displaced people inside the Syrian territories

SalamLebanese Prime Minister, Tammam Salam, suggested the formation of an Arab committee designed to crystallize the notion of creating accommodation zones for displaced people inside the Syrian territories, as he said, 'tending care to Syrian refugees in their lands is less costly to neighboring countries and donor sides.'

"Awaiting the achievement of such a goal, we call for the establishment of an Arab fund to reinforce the resilience of host communities, and improve the conditions of the temporary accommodation of displaced people," said Premier Salam in his address at the 27th Arab summit in Nouakchott, under the chairmanship of Mauritanian President Mohammed Weld Abdel Aziz.

Salam underlined in his word the temporary nature of the Syrian refugees' presence in Lebanon, saying that Lebanon is not a 'permanent asylum' country but rather a final nation solely to its sons.

"We look forward to the day where peace prevails and displaced people would be able to return to their homeland, where we would join hands with them in the reconstruction workshop of Syria."

On the other hand, Salam pointed out that Lebanon was exposed to a wave of cross-border terrorism, which has become a phenomenon surpassing all limits and posing a threat to the interests of Muslims and Arabs everywhere and an existential challenge to their countries and communities.

"As such, we are required to get out of the defensive stance in the face of such a monster, and mobilize all the security, political and intellectual capabilities to combat it by all means.. in a bid to protect our security and the future of our children, and in defense of our status in the world," Salam said.

The Premier affirmed Lebanon's permanent keenness on the supreme Arab interests, voicing solidarity with Arab brethrens in all their just causes.

He stressed that Lebanon is not neutral towards anything that tampers with the national security of our brethren countries, notably the GCC countries, voicing rejection of any interference in the affairs of Arab countries.
