Syrian army forces bolstered by Russian air strikes recaptured territory overnight in the southwest suburbs of the battleground city of Aleppo, rolling back the short-lived gains of a terrorists’ offensive.

Syrian forcesMilitants and their terrorist allies launched an assault Sunday in a bid to ease a more than two-week government siege of terrorist-held districts of the city.

But Syrian army fighters have put up a fierce fightback, retaking several positions from beleaguered militant forces, a monitor said Wednesday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said government forces seized two hilltops and two small villages in the southwest suburbs of Aleppo late Tuesday.

"The regime is launching counter-attacks to absorb the fierce rebel offensive," said Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman. "The opposition offensive has not achieved the results that were expected at this stage," he said.

An Agence France Presse journalist in east Aleppo said clashes and shelling could be heard throughout the night, followed by barrel bomb attacks and air strikes in the early morning.

Terrorist organizations acknowledged the death of 64 of their members, including some of their leaders, in Aleppo’s southern countryside during the past 24 hours.

The terrorist organizations said on their websites that scores of their members were killed, including the deputy of the military official of southern Aleppo countryside in Ahrar al-Cham movement Abu Bakr al-Shami, and terrorists Abu Hamza al-Shami, Mohammad Hassan al-Khateeb, Haitham al-Darweesh, and Mohammad Abdul-Qder Jababini who were field leaders in al-Jabha al-Chamia, al-Cham legion, and Jaish al-Fateh terrorist organizations.

Terrorist organizations also admitted that a Lebanese terrorist nicknamed “Abu Sabri” who was affiliated to “al-Tahreer party” was killed along with tens of terrorists from al-Jabha al-Chamia, Jaish al-Islam, al-Cham legion, the Northern Battalion, and Ahrar al-Cham movement terror organizations.
