Netanyahu: Palestinian Statehood Bid to Fail

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Palestinian statehood bid at UN had no chance of success, assuring that the Palestinians would seek renewed talks.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Palestinian statehood bid at UN had no chance of success, assuring that the Palestinians would seek renewed talks.

At the start of the weekly cabinet meeting on Sunday, Netanyahu said: “Their attempt to be accepted as a member of the United Nations will fail”.
"That attempt will fail, since it has to pass through the Security Council", the Zionist PM reiterated.

"As a result of the actions of the United States, which is working closely with us, and of other governments with which we and the Americans are working, I predict that this attempt will fail," Netanyahu said.
"At the end, after the smoke clears and after everything that happens at the UN, the Palestinians will come to their senses, I hope, drop these moves to bypass negotiations and return to the table in order to bring peace to us and our neighbors."

Palestinians are to seek UN membership from the Security Council next Friday. For its part, Washington has already announced it will use its veto to block the Palestinian bid in the Security Council.
However, the case is to be brought before the General Assembly where the majority of the states are likely to vote in favor of the Palestinian state.

As he was comparing the vote at the Security Council to the vote at the General Assembly, he said about the G.A.: “There you can pass almost any resolution. They could decide that the sun rises in the west and sinks in the east but it doesn't have the same weight and the same importance as the Security Council”.
