Pro-Saleh Forces Shell Protest Camp in Sanaa, Toll Rises

Death toll of the attacks passed 50 as government forces have shelled a protest camp in Sanaa early Tuesday, killing at least two demonstrators.

Forces loyal to Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh went on with their crackdown on protesters for a third successive day. Death toll of the attacks passed 50 as government forces have shelled a protest camp in Sanaa early Tuesday, killing at least two demonstrators.

Government forces launched a crackdown on the protesters on Sunday, killing more than 50 people in two days.
Explosions rocked Sanaa all night, and at least two people were killed in the shelling, according to doctors.

Groups of protesters have occupied various parts of the capital for most of the year, calling for the ouster of Saleh.
Soldiers who had defected to the opposition, were also deployed in the fight.

Few hours later and after a lull in fighting that lasted a few hours in the night, Sanaa residents awoke at dawn to the sound of automatic gunfire and shelling, with witnesses saying troops of dissident General Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar were clashing with those loyal to embattled Saleh.
There was no immediate word on casualties.

Saleh, who has been in Saudi Arabia for treatment after he was seriously injured during an attack that targeted his palace, has repeatedly refused to step down.

However, on Sunday and after months of anti-government protests, a Saudi official announced that an agreement of power transfer would be signed “soon”.
Shortly after the announcement, fight erupted between pro and anti-Saleh forces.
