Lebanon President Michel Suleiman met on Tuesday with counterparts participating in the annual UN General Assembly summit in New York at Lebanon’s office at the UN Security Council, the National News Agency reported on Wednesday.
The report said that Suleiman met with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to discuss bilateral relations and the finalizing of treaties signed between the two countries. He also met with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
The report added that Suleiman also met with Austrian President Heinz Fisher who told the Suleiman that Austria will send 250 troops to join the UNIFIL peacekeeping forces working in South Lebanon.
The NNA added that Fisher also asked for Lebanon’s support in his country’s bid for membership to the executive UNESCO council.
Suleiman headed to New York on Monday to participate in 66th UN General Assembly meeting and to preside over the UN Security Council session, entitled “Preventive Diplomacy”, on Thursday.
