The Parliament approved the electricity draft law on Thursday a day after the cabinet agreed to adopt two amendments on the proposal.
A general session was convened at the Parliament in Nejme Square, with the majority of the members of Parliament voted in favor of the draft law.
On Wednesday the agreement was reached between different parties during a meeting for the Parliamentary joint committees .
The cabinet approved to transfer $1.2 billion to the Energy Ministry on condition that it is funded in installments and that the government supervises the project to increase electricity output by 700 Megawatts.
RESERVATIONS
For his part, Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun, whose bloc member Gebran Basil (Energy Minister) has proposed the draft law, said that he had reservations about the amendments made.
“We will preserve solidarity in the cabinet…but we have reservations about articles in the law [that was ratified],” Aoun told the press at parliament.
But he also voiced hope that “all the parties who opposed the energy bill would not obstruct its execution.”
“We need everyone to contribute to the making of this project,” he added.
