The explosions that also left major damage on buildings and completely destroyed some houses, forced the security forces to close all the entrances to Karbala.
"The bomb attacks in Karbala today have so far killed nine people and there are 99 people wounded," head of Karbala Province's Health Department, Alaa Hammudi said, warning that the toll is rising.
In parallel, four people were killed and four others were wounded in two roadside bombs in the Western city of Ramadi.
“The first explosion targeted the residence of a tribal chief, killing a woman and wounding two girls. The second blast, which occurred when police arrived at the scene, killed a man and wounded four others, including three policemen,” security officials said.
Meanwhile, the driver of a senior official in Iraq's human rights ministry was killed by gunmen using silenced pistols North Baghdad, an interior ministry official said.
