Former PM Omar Karame says President Bashar Assad told him earlier in the week that he is no longer worried over crisis in Syria
Lebanese former Prime Minister Omar Karame stressed on Sunday that Syrian President Bashar Assad comforted him earlier in the week that he had “turned the page of the events” in his country.
Karame, who visited Assad along with his son Minister Faisal Karami on Thursday, told Lebanese daily An-Nahar that the “the story is over.” Assad comforted him that he had “turned the page of the events” that shook the neighboring country, saying things were “under control.”
“We are no longer worried,” Karame quoted the Syrian president was telling him during their meeting.
The former premier told An-Nahar that the information about the crackdown in Syria and the uprising against the regime is totally different than what is taking place there.
On Thursday, Assad received Karame and his son Youth and Sports Minister Faisal Karame. The meeting focused on the events in Syria and the attempts of targeting its security and stability. The situation in Lebanon was also discussed during the meeting.
Following the meeting, Karame expressed confidence in the ability of the Syrian people and leadership to overcome the current circumstances, calling for vigilance over the attempts of fragmenting the region, sowing sedition in and over the dangerous effects of such attempts on the Middle East as a whole.
