The Egyptian energy minister has approved a request from authorities in Gaza to increase the amount of electricity to meet the needs of villages near the border, according to Maan news agency.
Hassan Younes will allow an increase from 17 to 22 megawatts, according to the energy authority in Gaza, which praised the initiative as a first step in solving the energy crisis.
The authority also warned that shortages of up to 70 megawatts have occurred in the past, so there is more work to be done. But it thanked the Egyptian government and people for the increase.
