A 16-year-old boy Ahmed Jaber al-Qattan was martyred on Thursday after security forces had shot him in the chest at close range in the village of Abu Saiba near the capital, al-Manama.

Angry mourners were attacked by security forces in Diraz, northwest of Manama, sparking clashes between the two sides.
Several people were wounded and a number of protesters were arrested during the Friday crackdown on the thousands of mourners who were marching on the city's main Budiya Highway.

Qattan’s martyrdom sparked condemnations and protests across the country all of which were systemically suppressed by Saudi-backed security forces.

For its part, the main opposition party al-Wefaq condemned the incident, saying the regime was waging a big assault of oppression against anti-government protesters.
"The martyrdom of young Jaber falls under the systematic oppression of those demanding democracy in Bahrain," the party said in a statement on Friday.

The Kingdom has witnessed peaceful anti-government rallies since mid-February, demanding an end to the Al Khalifa's over-40-year-long rule over the Persian Gulf Island.

Scores of people have been killed and hundreds more arrested in a Manama-ordered and Riyadh-backed crackdown in the country.

Earlier in August, another teenager, Ali Jawad, was martyred as authorities shot a tear gas canister from a close range, during a protest held following Eid al-Fitr prayers in the city of Sitra.
