Yemen has been braced for anti-regime protests for more than eight months. Protesters have been calling for the ouster of embattled President Ali Abdullah Saleh, who has been refusing to quit.
Saleh returned to Sanaa few weeks ago, after he was in Saudi Arabia for medical treatment after he was injured in an attack that targeted his presidential palace.
Shortly after he returned, violence erupted across the country. Saleh last week said he would quit power “in days”. However, the opposition dismissed Saleh declaration as allegations, and the violence intensified.
On Friday, demonstrators called for the United Nations to intervene in order to put Saleh on trial in the wake of a crackdown on anti-regime protests.
