President Assad Appoints New Governors in Northwestern Provinces

Syrian President Bashar Assad appointed on Sunday two new governors for the northwestern province of Idlib and for the Damascus governorate.

Syrian President Bashar Assad appointed on Sunday two new governors for the northwestern province of Idlib and for the Damascus governorate.

“President Bashar al-Assad on Sunday issued Decree No. 421 on the appointment of Yasser Salman al-Shoufi as Governor of Idleb and Hussein Makhlouf Makhlouf as Governor of Damascus Countryside”, Syrian News Arab Agency said on its official website on Sunday.

“Al-Shoufi replaced former governor Khalid al-Ahmad and Makhlouf succeeded former governor Zahid Haj Moussa”. SANA added.

Assad has sacked several governors since the wave of violence erupted in mid-March, including the Hama governor who was dismissed in July.
