The body of former Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi was buried midnight in a secret location after the rebels put him for days in a meat market freezer for display, AFP quoted a military council member in Misrata as saying Tuesday.

The source who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that “the ex-leader’s remains were buried overnight in a religious ceremony along with the corpses of his son Moutassim and ex-defense minister Abu Bakr Yunis Jaber.

The news agency further clarified that “a convoy of four or five military vehicles took away the bodies late Monday night to an unknown location… three religious leaders loyal to the ousted dictator prayed and performed a religious ceremony before the burial.”

This comes after criticisms where being made by foreign governments and rights groups on Gaddafi’s killing especially that he was taken alive and beaten and killed after that.

The Libyan interim leader Mustafa Abdel Jalil responded to that saying that an inquiry will be made to probe Gaddafi's killing.

"In response to international calls, we have started to put in place a commission tasked with investigating the circumstances of Moammar Gaddafi's death in the clash with his circle as he was being captured," Abdel Jalil said Monday.
