Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei said on Monday that the events occurring nowadays in the Middle East are the result of long-term humiliation by arrogant powers.“The elites and academics’ guidance in the Muslim world is needed to assist the peoples to prevent arrogant powers from hijacking the glorious popular movements and steal their uprisings,” IRNA quoted Ayatollah Khamenei as saying.
His eminence was addressing a speech on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the holy Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and his grandson Imam Ja’afar al-Sadeq (AS).
“The responsibility of political, scientific and academic elites and religious scholars in the face of recent developments is very heavy,” he added.
Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that “had we Muslims been able to present Islam to the world properly, the world would have categorically been turning to Islam,” adding that arrogance had divided Muslim nations so as to prevent emergence of Islam in the true sense of the word.
Criticizing US propaganda and efforts in the region to acquit itself of its role in supporting the region’s dictators, the Ayatollah said, “The recent popular movements are primarily against the dominance of arrogant powers.”
He emphasized dominant powers' plots against Islamic countries had created discord among Muslim nations, calling on the Muslim world to become vigilant and stop the “great Satan” [the US] from interfering in its destiny.
“If governments become united with their peoples, no power can take control of their nations,” Ayatollah Khamenei concluded.
