Soltanieh: IAEA Report ‘Scientifically Baseless’

Iranian envoy to the UN atomic watchdog said the report on the Islamic Republic’s nuclear capabilities was ’scientifically baseless’.

Iranian envoy to the UN atomic watchdog said the report on the Islamic Republic's nuclear capabilities was 'scientifically baseless’.

During a meeting held in the headquarters of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Ali Asghar Soltanieh said he was able to prove to the IAEA that its report on the Islamic Republic's nuclear capabilities was "unfounded, groundless and scientifically baseless."

The UN watchdog held the meeting late Friday to discuss the technical aspects presented in the report, which claimed that Iran had worked on developing an atomic bomb design and may still be conducting such research.
During the three-hour meeting, Soltanieh presented the agency with Iran's rebuttal to the report, adding that IAEA cannot substantiate the claim that Islamic Republic holds any atomic materials for military purposes.

Soltanieh stressed that the IAEA officials admitted during the meeting they did not have any original documents proving that Iran was working on nuclear weapons.

Moreover, the Iranian envoy told IRNA that he was able to demonstrate that a number of cases presented in the report were ‘scientifically baseless’, and that his presentation prompted several important questions from some friendly countries. He did not specify which countries, or what exactly they had asked.

"The documents show how ridiculous and unacceptable their work, which undermines the IAEA's credibility," Soltanieh said.
