The Egyptian police clashed Saturday with protesters demanding a speedy trial of policemen and officials who were involved in the deadly crackdowns against anti-Moubarak regime protesters in January.

The demonstrators, mostly wounded citizens or relatives of victims killed during the revolution against ousted president Hosni Moubarak, were holding a sit-in in the Tahrir square, when the police attacked them in the morning.

AFP reported that “clashes later took place between riot police and roughly 200 protesters, who flung whatever they could at policemen who beat them with Sticks,” quoting a security official as saying that “the police arrested several protestors.”

“The sit-in was joined on Friday by some tens of thousands of protesters who flooded the square to demand a quick transition to civilian rule… the demonstration also called on the military appointed cabinet to withdraw a constitutional draft that would prevent parliamentary scrutiny of the military's budget,” AFP added.
