Algeria set to lift 19-year state of emergency
In a remarkable move in the light of the Arab World revolutions, a government statement said on Tuesday that a state of emergency imposed in Algeria 19 years ago to fight insurgents will be lifted under terms of an order adopted by the cabinet. The cabinet adopted a draft order repealing a February 1993 decree that extended a state of emergency declared on February 9, 1992, the cabinet said.
"This draft order will come into force after its imminent publication in the gazette," it added.
