Self-sacrifice martyr Sheikh Assaad Hussein Berro

Will:

In the name of Allah the most Gracious, most Merciful,
“Among the Believers are men who have been true to their covenant with Allah: of them some have completed their vow (to the extreme), and some (still) are waiting: but they have never changed (their determination) in the least." {The Clans (Al-Ahzaab): 23}

My dear brothers and sisters:

… The ninth out of the ten who have been true to their covenant to Allah departs for the sake of Allah. After Mohammad Hassouna… Assi and Mahmoud departed, and then the Mufti followed by Ahmed, then Jawad, Jaafar, and Hasan, and now it is the turn of the ninth to depart, for Allah has accepted me, so praise be to Him for this grace…

I grieve because I am not with you…

As I’m preparing for my coming operation, and you know that my character is similar to those eight, I don’t linger and I don’t cower, but the conditions have been harsh on me, so I ask everyone to accept my excuse… 

I love every one of you…

… I entrust you to stay away from following your desires and having interest in worldly pleasures. If you have the desire to meet Allah, you have to free yourself from such attachments and from your ego, set yourself free in Allah’s wide world, and struggle for His sake on the path of the Leader who followed the path of the Supreme Leader, the great Imam Khomeini, who drew for us the path of jihad and taught us to move confidently, because he said: “Move confidently and be certain that you are under the protection of the source of power who is Allah the Exalted"… so move freely to work for the sake of Allah based on that “So lose not heart, nor fall into despair: For ye must gain mastery if ye are true in Faith” {The Family of Imraan (Aal Imraan): 139}.

Purify yourselves from all the devilish illusions that are fabricated by Satan and his soldiers…

Biography:

Sheikh Assaad Hussein Berro was born on the 26th of February, 1965 in Al-Ouzai region south of Beirut in a modest and honest family that raised him on rejecting oppression and violence and having faith and high morals.

He studied in a school in Beirut then majored in Political Science, but dropped out of college to study religion.

Berro did not finish his religious studies as he chose to work in the field of Jihad against the Zionist enemy.

The martyr was among 10 resistance fighters in a group called “Martyr of the Convention” also known as “the Group of Ten”, and this was a group formed by young men who agreed on attaining martyrdom since the confrontations with the Zionist enemy began.

He was religiously committed, and like all the Islamic Resistance martyrs, used to find his pleasure in reciting the Quran and performing the Night Prayer (Salatul-lail), and his ultimate grief was the calamity of Imam Hussein (as) in Karbala.

Assaad used to follow up lectures to cement his education, so that he would be able to join the “Group of Ten”. He was deeply influenced and attracted to the personality of Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, Imam Ruhollah Khomeini, and was strictly committed to the Authority of the Jurisprudent, considering it the thin line between Heaven and Hell.

He got married on the 30th of August, 1986 and had two children, Fatima and Mustapha.

The martyr used to work in glass to cover up his work in the Islamic Resistance.

In the Battlefield:

His love and passion to Jihad was indescribable, especially after he participated in preparing for some self-sacrifice operations. He constantly insisted on having the chance to perform a self-sacrifice operation, and got this opportunity three times but each of them used to get canceled at the last moment.

It was Tuesday the 9th of August, 1989 when a large Israeli convoy was progressing towards the Southern town of Marjeyoun. The martyr was waiting for it, and when it moved closer, he attacked it with a small explosive laden pickup truck which he detonated, causing the complete destruction of the convoy.

Sheikh Assaad Berro was instantly martyred after having spent his life for the sake of Allah, implementing his oath to Allah and to the martyrs who preceded him in the “Group of Ten”; but the memory of the passionate, noble, gentle and decent man who spent everything he had for the sake of Allah and spared no effort to guide everyone he knew remained.
