The Lebanese cabinet session is expected to be held this afternoon (Wednesday) in the Baabda Palace with the most prominent item on the agenda: raising the wages.
Amid allegations that Change and Reform bloc wouldn’t participate in the meeting, Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun announced on Wednesday that the ministers would participate “because of the wage boost decree that has been submitted by the labor minister to the government.”
Following talks with Marada Leader Suleiman Franjieh, Tashnag Secretary-General Hovig Mekhitarian and Lebanese Democratic Party leader Talal Arslan in Rabieh, Aoun hoped that the decree would be approved so that everyone could enjoy the holidays.
The FPM ministers had boycotted the last cabinet session to protest the poor performance of Premier Najib Miqati and the government setting several conditions for the sake of the country for their return.
However, Aoun hinted that his ministers would boycott the sessions again if their demands were not met. “We will then decide our next step.”
After the weekly meeting of the bloc in Rabieh, Aoun thanked Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah for his stance towards the bloc. Sayyed Nasrallah threw his support behind the bloc’s fair demands in his speech at the sixth night of Ashura.
