“Hezbollah is surprised by this deplorable act, which is inappropriate for a foreign minister of an important country like France”
Hezbollah denounced on Monday French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe’s “deplorable” accusation to Syria and the Islamic resistance of being behind the explosion that targeted a French battalion operating within the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
Juppe’s accusations to Syria and Hezbollah were clear, but at the same time he acknowledged that he doesn’t have a proof, the party said in a statement. “Hezbollah is surprised by this deplorable act, which is inappropriate for a foreign minister of an important country like France,” it said, calling on Juppe to correct his stance and be aware to the seriousness of such “unfair” accusations.
The French foreign minister said in an interview with RFI radio on Sunday that Syria was behind attacks on its troops in Lebanon earlier this week. “We think it's most probable, but I don't have proof.” Elsewhere in his remarks he added that Hezbollah had carried out the attack on behalf of Damascus, Juppe said: “Absolutely. It is Syria's armed wing (in Lebanon).”
