Over 20 Killed in Two Days by Saleh Forces, Protests Continue

Tens of thousands of protesters took to the streets in Yemen Sunday calling for President Ali Abdullah Saleh to face trial.

Tens of thousands of protesters took to the streets in Yemen Sunday calling for President Ali Abdullah Saleh to face trial, a day after his forces and loyalists killed 13 people and injured at least 50 others at a similar demonstration.

Chants such as "the people want to bring the slaughterer to trial… We won't rest until the slaughterer is executed… We don't want Abdrabuh, Ali Saleh controls him…” were heard in the northern district of Sanaa.

AFP quoted a diplomat who spoke on condition of anonymity as saying that “Saleh has presented a list of 412 people he wants the immunity deal to include… The list included his relatives, aides, and officials who had worked with him during his rule."

Sunday's protesters rejected any such agreements and shouted: “No guarantee… no immunity to Saleh and to those close to him."

Thirteen people were killed and 50 others were wounded on Saturday when security forces and gunmen loyal to Saleh attacked their march in which they were calling for him to be put on trial.

Medical sources added that nine others were killed on Sunday, while 150 others were suffering from breathing difficulties due to tear gas inhalation.
