Iranian Oil Ministry signed a deal with Afghanistan to supply the neighboring country with a million tons of Iranian fuel oil, petrol and aviation fuel a year, Iranian media reported Tuesday.
According to the contract, signed in a ceremony attended by Iran's Oil Minister Rostam Qasemi on Monday, Iran will export products including gasoil, jet fuel and gasoline to Afghanistan.
The accord was signed by Afghanistan's trade and industry minister Anwar Ul Haq Ahadi and Iran’s deputy oil minister Alireza Zeyghami.
Two-thirds of the export deal was for fuel oil, a category that includes diesel and fuel for agricultural, industrial and heating uses, according to Zeyghami. A quarter was for petrol and around 10% was jet fuel, he said.
He expressed hope that export of oil products will increase next year as refineries in Shazand, Tehran, Tabriz, Bandar Abbas and Isfahan raise the output.
