Iran is going on with its ten-day wargames in the Strait of Hormuz, with the navy on Saturday is preparing to test-fire a variety of missiles including long range ones.
Deputy Commander of the Iranian Navy and Spokesman of the Drills, Admiral Mahmoud Moussavi, told the state television network IRIB: "In the coming days we will test-fire all kinds of surface-to-sea, sea-to-sea and surface-to-air as well as shoulder-launched missiles."
He said in a separate interview with Iran's Press TV that "dummy targets will be towed into the sea today (Saturday) as we prepare for the live-firing of the missile tests."
The Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari is to watch over the drills along with a number of senior Army and Armed Forces commanders.
Fars News Agency also quoted Moussavi as saying that firing the long range missiles “is the final part of the navy drill”, adding that “the final phase of the drill is to prepare the navy for confronting the enemy in war situations".
The Islamic Republic of Iran started on December 24 the “Velayat 90” maneuvers. The drills will end on January 3.
