A roadside bomb in the town of Owairij, just south of Baghdad, targeting devotees walking to the shrine city of Karbala, 110 kilometers from the capital, killed one visitor and wounded at least nine, defense and interior ministry officials said.
And on the outskirts of the central city of Hilla, a car bomb wounded 15 Afghan visitors, three of them seriously, police and medics said.
The occasion of Arbaeen later this month marks 40 days after the Ashura anniversary commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussein.
