It’s a humanitarian-social disaster that plagued the state and the people of Lebanon. No sorry, condemnation, committee or even money would compensate a family of a victim of the collapsed building in Beirut’s Ashrafieh.
As rescue operation was over with the death toll reaching 27 people, Monday’s cabinet meeting decided to task the Higher Relief Committee with providing “temporary housing” for the affected families.
Following the meeting at Baabda Presidential Palace, Minister of Information Wael Abu Faour Faour announced that it was decided to form a committee headed by Interior Minister Marwan Charbel to carry out investigations into the causes of the building’s collapse. The committee is also to present a report on buildings that are likely to fall down and offer suggestions that would assist the Civil Defense in dealing with such incidents.
Faour said that Miqati informed the cabinet about a preliminary report regarding the causes of the “catastrophe” and its consequences.
In the same context, the interior minister indicated on Tuesday that the final toll reached 27 deaths, 12 injuries adding that all residents have now been accounted for and none remain missing.
