Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Miqati stressed on Monday the importance of setting up an independent fund for petroleum and gas excavation.
He said at an event sponsored by the Association of Banks in Lebanon: “This fund will be strictly aimed at lowering Lebanon’s public debt.”
He also called for exerting efforts in implementing reform, especially in the electricity, education, and health fields.
“We should all cooperate because this issue does not only concern the government, but all the Lebanese,” continued the premier.
Miqati stated that he set achieving stability in Lebanon as a priority when he assumed the premiership, noting that economic development cannot be realized without it.
“The banking sector is vital for Lebanon,” he said.
The meeting of the Association of Banks in Lebanon was also attended by Lebanese Economy Minister Nicolas Nahhas and Lebanon's Central Bank Governor Riyad Salameh.
