Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel can’t ignore growing international pressure over West Bank settlement construction
Israel could not ignore growing international pressure over construction in the West Bank…
The announcement was made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, one of lots of Zionist leaders to have ignored the so-called world pressure and committed war crimes and crimes against humanity in Lebanon and Palestine.
Netanyahu, who vowed that his government would preserve ongoing settlement activity to the best of its ability, claimed that Israel cannot simply ignore world pressure. "We are currently making efforts to maintain the existing construction, but we must understand that we are in a very difficult international reality," he told ministers from his Likud faction.
The Israeli premier was speaking one week after the United States vetoed a United Nations resolution condemning Israeli settlements in the West Bank and four days before Mideast Quartet officials are planned to meet Israeli and Palestinian representatives in an effort to jump start the so-called peace process.
"The American veto in the Security Council was reached after great effort," Netanyahu pointed out. "We could ignore it all and say 'no problem', but as the prime minister responsible for this state, I have the ultimate responsibility."
According to Israeli daily Haaretz, he hinted that Israel should refrain from pushing forth new construction plans. "I am the prime minister, and I am responsible for this state," said Netanyahu. "We could surely keep our heads in the wall, but that's not how I do things."
