Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said on Thursday that the two new domestically built submarines have been added to the submarine fleet of the Islamic Republic of Iran's Navy.
Rear Admiral Sayyari noted that all parts of the Ghadir-class submarines, including fuselage, radar equipment, and advanced defense equipment have been designed and manufactured by the experts of Iran's Defense Ministry.
He pointed out that the submarines joined the Iranian Navy's fleet concurrent with the 10-day-dawn marking the 33rd victory of the 1979 Islamic revolution in Iran.
The move is seen as part of Iran's effort to upgrade its defense capabilities amid escalating tension with the West over its peaceful nuclear program.
High maneuver capabilities of Ghadir-Class submarine make it suitable for Iran's weather conditions, and Sayyari said the Ghadir class submarines meet the needs of the navy.
