Al-Qaeda Chief Ayman Al-Zawahri announced Sunday his support to what he called “the Syrian uprising”, and invited “the lions of Syria to jihad, and not to depend on the Arabs, West, and Turkey.”
Al-Qaeda chief also considered that “all those don’t want Syria to be free, Muslim, independent, strong, and struggling against Syria. They rather want a weak, oppressed Syria that recognizes Israel and yield to global injustice.”
“Syria is still bleeding, and the butcher, the son of the butcher Bashar son of Hafez is not stopping,” Al-Zawahri said in a televised message, adding that “the struggling, courageous Syrian people have risen, and will not settle for less than victory over the criminal butchers in Syria.”
Moreover, he considered that the regime is losing power, adding: “continue with your uprising and don’t accept anything other than an independent government that rules by Islam.”
Al-Zawahri further invited every Muslim and every free, honorable person in Turkey, Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon to support his brothers in Syria with all that he can.”
For its part, the so-called “Syrian Opposition’s General Commission” rejected the statement and “any attempts by Al-Qaeda to interfere in our revolution”.
“We are a people struggling for freedom and dignity and for a democratic state,” the General Commission said on its Facebook page Monday.
