Ten other people were wounded in the attack, which took place as the bomb exploded near a mosque in Parachinar during Friday prayers.
"It was a suicide attack. Five people were killed and 10 injured," a senior Pakistani security official told Agence France Press on condition of anonymity.
Other officials could not confirm whether a suicide bomber was responsible, but said the death toll was five with 10 wounded.
"We don't have exact details about the nature of the blast," said the top administration official for the region, Mohammad Anees.
