Amid ebbs and flows concerning Israeli and US rhetoric on an attack against Iran, Israeli Army Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Benny Gantz claimed that the Zionist entity will decide on its own whether to wage a war on Iran
Amid ebbs and flows concerning Israeli and US rhetoric on an attack against Iran, Israeli Army Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Benny Gantz claimed that the Zionist entity will decide on its own whether to wage a war on Iran, a statement that was curbed by the US itself.
“Israel is the central guarantor of its own security; this is our role as army, the State of Israel should defend itself,” Israeli Channel One TV quoted Gantz as saying on Saturday.
He also asserted that the entity must monitor the developments in Iran and take into consideration “what the world is doing, what Iran decided, what we will do or not do."
His comments come as US National Security Advisor Tom Donilon arrived to ‘Israel’ to discuss Iran with senior Israeli officials.
US: Israel's Attack Imprudent
In US, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff General Martin Dempsey has warned against a military invasion of Iran, describing such a move as imprudent.
“It’s not prudent at this point to decide to attack Iran,” Dempsey told CNN in an interview. "I think it would be premature to exclusively decide that the time for a military option was upon us," he said. “I wouldn’t suggest, sitting here today, that we’ve persuaded them (Israelis) that our view is the correct view and that they are acting in an ill-advised fashion.”
IAEA: Israeli Attack, a Path to Disaster
In the same context, Former Head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Hans Blix has described any attack on Iran as a “path to disaster,” adding that Tehran will not remain passive in face of aggression.
“Iranian leaders are not going to sit quietly and twiddle their thumbs . . . A war in the Gulf and skyrocketing of oil and gas prices are not exactly what a financially troubled world needs right now,” the former chief UN weapons inspector added.
Referring to the IAEA’s November 2011 report on Iran’s nuclear activities, Blix made clear that the report "did not . . . conclude that Iran was making a weapon or had taken a decision to make one."
He cautioned the present director general of the IAEA, Yukiya Amano, that “the agency should not . . . draw conclusions from information where the supplier is not ready also to show evidence… The agency should not risk its own credibility by relying on data that it cannot verify fully.”
Iran Ready to the Worst Scenario
Iran Foreign Minister warned the Israeli enemy on Sunday that the Islamic republic was prepared for any worse scenario concerning a potential attack.
Ali Akbar Salehi said Iran was determined to pursue the advancement of its nuclear program, adding that Tehran was prepared for any "worse-case scenario" in attempt to defend its peaceful nuclear program.
“Since we believe that we are right, we do not have the slightest doubt in the pursuit of our nuclear program," Salehi told reporters. "Therefore, we plan to move ahead with vigor and confidence and we do not take much heed of [the West’s] propaganda warfare," Salehi was cited by Press TV as saying.
