A suicide car bomb exploded near a police station in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar on Monday, killing at least one police officer, officials said.
Four other people, two police and two civilians, were injured in the powerful blast, local police officer Abdul Ahad told AFP.
A spokesman for the interior ministry told AFP: "there has been a suicide car bombing in Kandahar. So far, we have one police death." Witnesses reported "an extremely powerful explosion". The Kandahar Media Office, run by the local government, also confirmed a suicide car bombing, saying the blast "completely destroyed a civilian compound."
There was no claim of responsibility for the attack.
