Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has said that the high turnout for Iran’s March 2 parliamentary election will be a slap in the face of the hegemonistic powers.

Supreme LeaderSupreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has said that the high turnout for Iran’s March 2 parliamentary election will be a slap in the face of the hegemonistic powers.

The Leader made the remarks in an address to thousands of people from all walks of life, including families of a number of martyrs of the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war and war veterans and their families, during a meeting in Tehran on Wednesday.

“With the grace of God, the Iranian nation will give the global arrogance (forces of imperialism) a slap in the face in Friday’s election, which will be harder than the one (they received) on Bahman 22, and will flaunt their resolve and strong determination in the face of the enemy so that the hegemonistic bloc will realize that they will not be able to make progress in their confrontation with the (Iranian) nation,” Ayatollah Khamenei stated.

Millions of Iranian people held rallies across the country on the 22nd of the Iranian calendar month of Bahman (February 11) to commemorate the 33rd anniversary of the Islamic Revolution of 1979, reaffirming their allegiance to the Islamic establishment.

The Leader said that the enemies have been making efforts for months to put a damper on the people’s enthusiasm to participate in the election, noting, “In every corner of the world, vibrant elections are a symbol of the vitality of a nation and their indomitable will. Therefore, in every country, a high turnout for elections shows the people’s vigilance and their support for the regime.”

Supreme Leader“The turnout for presidential elections in the United States has been low over the past few years and is not comparable to the turnout for the Iranian presidential election of 2009 and the parliamentary election of 2008,” Ayatollah Khamenei said, adding, “The purpose of the hegemonistic bloc’s massive propaganda is to depress the Iranian people’s turnout.”

“What is important in regard to the election is a huge turnout because the higher the turnout, the more competent, the bolder, and the stronger the Majlis will be, and such a Majlis will be able to determinedly make the voice of the people heard in the world,” he stated.

“Of course, voting for suitable candidates is also important,” Ayatollah Khamenei added.

He went on to say that Friday’s election is more “sensitive” than the previous elections because the domineering powers have played most of their cards against the Iranian nation and are playing their last cards.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Leader stated that the arrogant powers have imposed sanctions on the Islamic Republic with the aim of frustrating the people, adding that the United States and certain other Western countries, along with the Zionist regime, are “seeking to dissuade the Iranian people from travelling on the path that led to a widespread awakening in the Muslim world” and prevent them from serving as a model for other nations.

“Despite all the pressure and even the assassinations of the country’s young scientists, the Iranian nation has prevented the hegemonistic bloc’s conspiracies from bearing fruit,” Ayatollah Khamenei observed.

“The Iranian nation is more determined than ever,” his eminence concluded.
