Japanese Ambassador to Iran Kinichi Kumano said Wednesday that his country regards trade cooperation with Iran as important and has always been trying to keep it going.

He made the remarks in a meeting with Bushehr province economic work group members.

Kumano expressed hope Japan and Bushehr could well continue their cooperation and expand their trade exchange to a satisfactory level.

He described South Pars Special Energy Economic Zone as a region with high potentials for cooperation with Japan.

The Japanese ambassador said Japan and Bushehr have historical ties as it was the first gate for high ranking Japanese delegation and contractors to Iran 131 years ago.

Kumano said Japan imports about 40 percent of its needed fish from Iran and therefore Bushehr can be a good source to meet Japanese demands.
