Bomb Blast Rocks Yemen Republican Guard Troops Camp

A bomb blast rocked a camp of Yemen’s Republican Guard troops in the southwest of the country, the Yemeni army says.

According to a statement by the Yemeni army, a bomber smashed his explosives-laden car into the camp in Bayda, 170 km southwest of the capital, Sana'a, on Saturday.

Witnesses said the camp's three-storey building was left in ruins after the attack. Yemeni officials have not commented on the possible casualties, yet.
Republican Guard units are led by the son of Yemen's former president Ali Abdullah Saleh.

The explosion was followed by an exchange of fire between gunmen and security forces.

The explosion came days after Al-Qaeda claimed a similar attack that left 26 soldiers dead, military sources said.
