United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Valerie Amos and the accompanying delegation have entered Baba Amr district, in Homs along with the Syrian Red Crescent.
“The Syrian Arab Red Crescent stayed inside Baba Amr for about 45 minutes,” International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) spokesman, Hisham Hassan, said on Wednesday.
Amos, also an Emergency Relief Coordinator, is also scheduled to meet with the Syrian Red Crescent head, Abdul Rahman Attar, on Thursday.
Amos also toured a number of neighborhoods in Homs and inspected the vandalism of public and private property caused by armed terrorist groups.
Earlier on Wednesday, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem stressed in a meeting with Amos that the Syrian leadership is doing its best to provide the food stuff and medical care for all citizens despite the unfair sanctions imposed by some Arab and Western countries on the country.
Al-Moallem said Syria is committed to cooperation with the UN mission in the framework of respecting Syria's sovereignty and independence and coordinating with the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry.
For her part, Amos thanked the Syrian government for receiving her and explained that the aim of her visit was to evaluate the humanitarian situation in Syria to consider what can be done to secure the basic needs of citizens. Amos said she was committed along with her team to the international criteria for humanitarian aid.
