The army intelligence arrested two people and seized a machinegun from a car going out of the Ain el-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp near the southern city of Sidon, the National News Agency reported Tuesday.
NNA said the army seized the DShK Soviet-era machinegun from the vehicle and arrested its occupants that it identified with their initials as M.M.A. and A.Z.
The two suspects were taken to a military base for questioning, the agency added.
The seizure came in light of the army intelligence’s arrest of an extremist network that was allegedly planning to carry out attacks on the military school in al-Fayyadiyeh and an army base in Hamat.
It is not clear so far whether the two arrests are linked.
